UAE: Government Planning Crackdown on Price Manipulation

The Ministry of Economy for the United Arab Emirates says it will take firm action against price manipulation by retailers, and on increasing the price on goods or services without approval. Dr Hashim Saeed Al Nuaimi, Director General of the Ministry’s Consumer Protection Department, told reporters that the Ministry would not hesitate to act against companies violating consumer law.

USA: Coffee Planet Targets International Sales

Coffee Planet has recruited Ancis Romanovskis (pictured) as the company’s International Sales Manager as it seeks to expand from the Middle East into a global brand. Romanovskis will be tasked with building awareness for the coffee company, which began selling through Emarat service stations and other convenience retailers, finding new markets and partners.

USA: Retail Design Institute Honours Duane Reade Flagship Store

A Duane Reade store in Manhattan's financial district has won the Convenience Store / Pharmacy award at the annual Retail Design Institute Awards. At a ceremony coinciding with the National Retail Federation's (NRF) annual conference, the store beat out stiff competition from dozens of stores that opened during 2011 to win the prestigious prize.
