French retailer Auchen is conducting talks with the Landmark Group with a view to entering the Indian market, according to the Times of India. The two companies, the newspaper claims, plan to enter in a joint venture under the Max Hypermarket brand.
The Ministry of Economy for the United Arab Emirates says it will take firm action against price manipulation by retailers, and on increasing the price on goods or services without approval. Dr Hashim Saeed Al Nuaimi, Director General of the Ministry’s Consumer Protection Department, told reporters that the Ministry would not hesitate to act against companies violating consumer law.

A Duane Reade store in Manhattan's financial district has won the Convenience Store / Pharmacy award at the annual Retail Design Institute Awards. At a ceremony coinciding with the National Retail Federation's (NRF) annual conference, the store beat out stiff competition from dozens of stores that opened during 2011 to win the prestigious prize.
