Singapore: Carrefour Steps Up for Earth Hour

Carrefour Singapore has once again pledged its support for Earth Hour 2012, committing to a $10,000 donation for the World Wildlife Fund (WWF). The company will raise the funds while encouraging customers to adopt environmentally-friendly shopping habits, encouraging shoppers to use eco-bags instead of disposable plastic bags for their shopping.

USA: Giant Eagle Tests Curbside Express

Giant Eagle, a supermarket and convenience chain with stores in Pennsylvania, Ohio, West Virginia, and Maryland, is testing a new online service, Curbside Express. The service allows customers to do their shopping online and pick up their groceries at-store without leaving their car. Once an order is placed, a personal shopper gathers, bags and loads the shopping into the customer’s car. Curbside Express also allows the customer to add specific requests such as the way they would like your items bagged.

Canada: iSign Completes Installation in Mac and Couche-Tard Stores

iSign Media says it has finished installing its Interactive Marketing Solution (IMS) software in Mac's and Couche-Tard stores. The technology, which gathers real-time information on consumer habits and their preferences, allows retailers to increase their return on investment and avoid costly traditional advertising, according to the company.

China: Carrefour Store Closed as Authorities Crack Down on Labelling

Carrefour's store in Zhengzhou, the capital of Henan province, has been closed by authorities following allegations of mislabelling broadcast by state media. According to the media reports, the retailer was accused of selling meat with expired freshness dates and mislabelling regular chicken as 'free range'.
