Emirates National Oil Company (ENOC) has announced the availability of low-sulphur Euro 5 diesel at its fuel service stations for no extra cost.
The fuel has been made available today in accordance with new regulations by the Emirates Authority for Standards & Metrology (ESMA), the UAE’s sole standardisation body. The lower-sulphur fuel is designed to reduce motor vehicle pollution and greenhouse gas emissions and to promote environmental sustainability.
ENOC is absorbing the additional cost involved in distributing Euro 5 diesel as part of its commitment to more environmentally friendly fuels. “ENOC has always been at the forefront in promoting green technologies and services. As part of our corporate social responsibility commitment, we are also absorbing the extra cost involved in distributing Euro 5 diesel to further popularise its use by motorists. Together, we can contribute to achieving the ‘green economy for sustainable development’ vision announced by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai,” said Chief Executive Officer Saeed Khoory. “The UAE is setting a global benchmark with ESMA’s new recommendation to use the cleaner Euro 5 diesel. This is a significant step in the country’s concerted efforts to reduce the carbon footprint and promote environmental sustainability. By adopting the cleaner and greener diesel, motorists can contribute to reduced carbon, particulates and greenhouse gas emissions,” he added.
