GoPay will allow instant payment of fuel without using cards or cash.
Bank Windhoek, a financial service provider, is launching Namibia’s first mobile fuel payment system. GoPay will allow instant payment of fuel without using cards or cash. The system came as a result of increasing pressure on African banks to offer mobile payment solutions to customers.
GoPay matches the geographical location of customers with a fuel merchant by entering a unique USSD fuel merchant code. This code will be printed on lanyards and worn by fuel attendants so customers can make their payment. Regular customers can save their local GoPay merchant code in their phones for repeat use. Once the USSD code has been entered, the customer may enter the amount to be paid and submit for payment. The corresponding fuel merchant will receive the payment confirmation and process it as per normal payment receipts. The fuel attendant can then service the customer and fill up their vehicle.
Taxi owners and shuttle operators can have one centralized account to authorize payments. Customers can track their transaction history on their bank statements as GoPay uses the customer’s bank account as a source of funds GoPay also provides fuel merchants automated, itemized transaction reports that can be used for daily reconciliations through their email address.
