South Africa: Engen Kicks Off Annual ‘Engen KlevaKidz’

The purpose is to relay through educational stage drama key safety messages

With its unique brand of industrial theatre set to engage and educate children across South Africa about the importance of paraffin safety, the annual Engen KlevaKidz has kicked off in the Eastern Cape.

The travelling industrial theatre show, in partnership with The Communication Firm features engaging characters who deliver important safety messages. In this year’s show, young learners are educated about how to identify and use paraffin safely, with stories used to explain to learners, what to do if paraffin is ingested or inhaled.

After each show, evaluations are distributed to determine the effectiveness of the production.

Engen Corporate Social Investment Manager, Mntu Nduvane said, “Young children in under-resourced households are often the primary day-time care givers, often looking after their siblings while their parents or guardians are at work. Without supervision, and uninformed of the multiple dangers associated with using paraffin, children between the ages of 7 and 13 are often vulnerable, and it is these children who are the focus of Engen KlevaKidz. As a leading provider of fuel products in South Africa, we take this to heart and are honored to contribute to the livelihoods and the safety of people.” PWKD13092017
