This weekend saw the final F1 race at the Sepang Circuit in Malaysia.
As PetrolWorld prepares to celebrate 20 years in Asia in 2018, the Sepang F1 circuit held its final race last weekend. Back in 1999, I attended the first F1 race in Kuala Lumpur as a fan of the Irish Jordan F1 team. Another Irishman, Eddie Irvine won the first Sepang race for Ferrari. Exciting days when Japan and Australia were the only existing F1 circuits in Asia & Oceania in 1999.
The arrival of F1 in Malaysia represented a new era for motorsport in Asia. Malaysia had the vision to see its potential and I have no doubt, F1 put Malaysia and Petronas on the world stage with Malysian Tourism the big winner. Petronas will now continue to hold the flag for Malaysia as treble F1 World Champions and we have the growing popularity of the Singapore circuit not to far away!
