Carrefour Group Wins 2018 European Convenience Retail Sustainability Award

Carrefour Group has won the 2018 NACS European Convenience Retail Sustainability Award, sponsored by The Coca-Cola Company.

The award was presented during the NACS Convenience Summit Europe awards dinner. “Sustainability isn’t just essential for our planet, it is essential for our communities, and Carrefour Group is playing a leading role in building a more sustainable society,” said Ern Sherman, vice president of industry affairs for Coca-Cola North America. “Coca-Cola is proud to recognize Carrefour Group, which shares our commitment to make a positive impact and provide meaningful solutions in communities around the world.”

The award recognizes Carrefour Group for its outstanding pursuit of a significant and compelling sustainability initiative that has significantly improved commercial performance, competitiveness, customer perception, staff engagement and prospects for continued financial strength. Carrefour Group is humbly living up to its vision—to play a leading role in building a more sustainable, fairer, waste-free society, driven to do more and better—through environmental, social and responsible partnerships that advance its sustainable goals.

The Grand Jury selected Carrefour Group for its dedication to sustainability. As a leading food retailer and a key player in the global economy, Carrefour is dedicated to its social responsibilities, and has an ambitious approach to sustainable development, with quantified objectives and an annual assessment of its progress. The company incorporates sustainable development-related objectives into its businesses and across its entire value chain, including purchasing, logistics, quality control, store management and property. Its actions are built around three main priorities: combating all forms of waste, protecting biodiversity and helping stakeholders adopt a more responsible approach.

Carrefour Group is one of 16 retailers and three cooperative associations that are members of the European Commission’s Retailers’ Environmental Action Programme (REAP). REAP provides a foundation for facilitating dialogue among progressive retailers, and with all stakeholders throughout the supply chain, including producers and consumers. Carrefour’s sustainability commitments continue to display the company’s dedication to a set of ambitious and specific environmental commitments set forth by REAP.
