India: IOC Supports Key Social Programme

India: IOC Supports Key Social Programme

The proposal is to help the people reconstruct their life as well as their families

An action plan to provide employment at fuel service stations to 500 men and women has been worked out by the Prisons Department. Director General (Prisons and Correctional Services) V K Singh said, “We will complete the process by December end. We want to give priority to women with an aim to ensure financial support to them and their families.”

He added that four more fuel service stations would be opened by December end and the target is to run a total of 50 service stations. The Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) has already given the feasibility report. Plans have been drawn up to appoint a psychologist at every fuel station to check whether prisoners were following a reformed life or abandoned it halfway through.

The department aims to be an instrument of social change by helping a social movement – Citizen Forum, which would work for complete literacy of children.  In order to persuade parents to send their children to schools, a committee would be formed in every village, in addition to transforming villages into clean and green habitations.
