Various reports are suggesting that Irving Oil of Canada is in talks to acquire the Top Fuel Brand business in Ireland.
Irving Oil Canada based in New Brunswick has a strong historical link to both Ireland and Scotland. In 2016, Irving Oil acquired the Whitegate refinery in Cork, Ireland. It makes market business sense that it would want to acquire one of the oldest indigenous fuel brands in Ireland. Top Oil has an estimated fuel retail network of 180 service stations and fuel terminal in Dublin and is a popular well established business with potential.
The timing is also interesting, as a strong Irish economy looks set to continue with various strong long-term indicators. The exit of England from the European Union has highlighted the economic importance of a consolidated all Ireland market. The prospects of a stronger all Ireland economy is a huge underlying factor in current thinking on the island despite the unstable political landscape in Britain. PW070618
